District Doughnut - The Wharf

Washington, D.C.
Retail

District Doughnut, a concept founded in and for the DC area, serves handcraft fresh doughnuts daily. The Wharf location is a highly visible, easily approachable kiosk that provided an exciting design opportunity. Grounded with its masonry finish and stone countertop, the front counter takes center stage for the display of gourmet doughnuts. A minimalist approach is taken to the millwork backdrop that conceals functional elements within its reclaimed oak cladding. The all day operation allowed us to create a space that functions both day and night, whereby in the evenings the glass enclosed pavilion becomes a beacon on the waterfront. The whimsical arrangements of traditional light fixtures and shades give the space warmth and glow. We collaborated with a local artist and friend of our client to further transform the pavilion with bold murals.
