Foxfield Residence

North East, MD
Residential

With Foxfield, the foremost goal was to create an inspiring and quiet retreat from which to observe and enjoy the surrounding forest, marshlands and the Chesapeake Bay beyond. The building’s interiors are planned around three centers: the hearth, the table, and the kitchen. Though each of the building’s two wings was designed to feel independent of the other, a common spatial rhythm connects them. Dramatic overhead trusses and white oak floors draw on the beauty of natural wood, while a fieldstone fireplace, bluestone pavers, and soapstone kitchen counters hint at a solid relationship with the site. As one moves through Foxfield, the spaces unfold and communicate, creating connections between the natural elements within and outside the home.
