Nando's Peri-Peri - The Yards

Washington, DC

The traditional manufacturing shapes and forms found in buildings of this type are softened and used to support the underlying message and culture of Nando’s. An undulating trellis of wood and steel defines the exterior; steel cylinders lined in red tile greet you; lumber, painted and raw, bands the room; stacked and painted steel windows add a historic flashback; end block flooring trimmed in concrete recall traditional industrial flooring. Finally, a painting-clad billboard framed in steel reinforces Nando’s commitment to art. All this combines to establish a restaurant that recognizes the history of a neighborhood and the global cultural message of Nando’s.
