District Winery
The design of District Winery draws inspiration from traditional wood-framed winery buildings. The use of warm, southern yellow pine structural glulam lumber is integrated as the main framing element and decorative elements throughout. Composed in a rhythmic gesture, the yellow pine lumber serves as an internal framework with glass partitions that break up the various wine-related programs throughout the space. The juxtaposition of warm and cool finishes, peppered with mid-century modern elements, is seen throughout each level of the venue ā all connected by a central grand staircase. The ground level hosts a full-service restaurant, Ana, and wine production facility. An intermediate mezzanine level serves as a casual gathering space connected to the main level by two towering wine bottle storage structures. The second level is a flexible wedding and conferencing venue with an outdoor terrace that garners sweeping views of the Anacostia River. This project was designed and constructed under DCās new Green & Energy Compliance System (GECS) for interior build-out larger than 10,000 SF.
